Casa Companion Homecare Solutions was invited to participate in Home Start Inc.’s first job fair, the Employee Network Resource Fair, held at the Price Charities City Heights Center in San Diego on August 19th. Casa Companion Homecare Solutions offers hourly, live-in, overnight and 24-hour companion care services in San Diego. Along with other San Diego companies and organizations like Cox Communications, Hilton San Diego Mission Valley, Select Staffing, and more, Casa Companion Homecare met with Home Start clients who have been receiving one-on-one coaching from employment coaches, plus resource connections to child care, transportation, job certifications and career attire.

Christine fully supports Home Start’s vision, “for every child to have a safe, stable, and nurturing home,” and part of that mission is to help every family acquire “a safe place to live, ample food, steady income, physical wellness, and healthy relationships.” While Home Start, Inc., is a non-profit child abuse prevention and treatment agency that has been working on behalf of San Diego’s children since 1972, last week’s job fair was the first it has held. Home Start offers many programs and services, including employment placement and career improvement resources, so the job fair seemed like a natural addition to the program.

She says, “My work as a Case Manager is very rewarding. It’s rewarding for both sides – for us at Home Start and for our clients. The Family Self Sufficiency Program serves low income members of our community. We deal with various barriers like language and education. For example, my co-worker Sherry has many refugee clients who have their Bachelors or Masters degrees, but because of language barriers, they are not able to continue with their careers in the U.S. But many of the problems we encounter are related to self-confidence so we work with them on that. Some of our clients didn’t finish high school or go to high school. We help our clients find work so when they do get a job, they are very overwhelmed and excited and they are grateful for this resource. Sometimes it’s their first job, and it’s rewarding to be a part of that.”

Home Start continues to help its clients even after they have found work. According to Alejandra Perez, “We also provide other incentives once clients have found work to help remove other barriers such as gas cards, bus passes, and donations. Everything is for the clients.”

Alejandra says, “As a Case Manager, I also help and encourage my clients to go back to school. I also help many of them get their business license to start their own businesses in their field. It’s about building a future.”

Casa Companion Homecare Solutions was formed due to a lifelong ambition from its Founder and Managing Director, Christine Davies, to provide a service to the community that will have a positive impact on the lives of others. Christine’s desire was to build a business with a social conscience that has a higher purpose of connecting back to the people of her community, not merely to earn a profit.
