Spring is when Nature puts on a show, and this month is no exception. Get ready to meet the newest residents of San Diego all around the county: baby seals, baby birds, and camels of all sizes. Seniors can get their science on cheap while they learn about superbugs and smart bacteria at the Fleet Science Center. And the whole family can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with games, challenges, and a pot ‘o’ gold! Caregivers in San Diego have a lot of opportunities for fun this month with their loved ones.
Senior Mondays at the Fleet Science Center
- What you can expect: “The first Monday of every month, seniors 65 and older can enjoy the Science Center exhibits, a show in the Heikoff Giant Dome Theater and a lecture on the quietest day of the month for only $8! No coupons or additional discounts are accepted. The Fleet’s doors will open at 10 a.m. on the first Monday each month to get Senior Monday started. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the galleries and special senior discounts in Craveology and the North Star Science Store.”

Shorebirds Of San Diego County: Cardiff State Beach
- What you can expect: “A gently sloping and protected sandy beach is popular with walkers, surfers and campers. We’ll look for wintering Willets, Whimbrels, sandpipers and more that frequent this coast. We’ll also visit the San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center Loop Trail. Presented by San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy in partnership with California State Parks.”

La Jolla Harbor Seal ‘Walk and Talk’
- What you can expect, per the La Jolla Light newspaper: “The Sierra Club’s Seal Society will hold its annual informational “Talk and Walk” programs at the Children’s Pool. During several Saturdays this pupping season, participants will hear docents discuss the life cycle of harbor seals while viewing new seal pups. “Already, one pup has been born on Casa Beach and word is that he is doing well,” said docent Ellen Shively. “It’s very early to have a viable pup. I hope not too many mothers try to have their pups at South Casa this year, as it is fully unprotected, and an uneducated visitor can cause great harm to the newborn suckling and mother if disturbed in this important four-to-seven-week period before being weaned.” The tours meet at Mangelsen Nature Gallery, 7916 Girard Avenue, at 2 p.m. on the following Saturdays: March 16 and 30; and April 6. The hour-long event is free, and no reservation is necessary.”

Open Farm Day at the Oasis Camel Dairy
- What you can expect: “One weekend a month we open our gates for a fun, relaxing, interesting and exciting afternoon of activities.
