If you love nature, animals and fun, then this is your month! First, the world-renowned Del Mar National Horse is in town, and horse lovers all over San Diego are excited! Next, the Encinitas Spring Street Fair offers two days of music, food and fun for humans and dogs! Nature lovers can fill their cameras up with Instagram-worthy shots of wildlife and birds on a scenic trail hike, and the SD Humane Society puts on the dog at Liberty Station. The Horse Show, Street Fair and Walk For Animals all feature interesting shopping opportunities from a wide array of vendors, so there’s truly something for everyone. Caregivers in San Diego will love sharing these special San Diego events with their families this month!

The 74th Annual Del Mar National Horse Show – Dressage Week

  • What you can expect: “Experience the Southern California tradition of excellence, elegance and excitement during the Del Mar National Horse Show. This thrilling three-week event features three distinct equestrian disciplines — Western, Dressage and Hunter/Jumper — and is recognized as one of the top horse shows on the international stage, attracting nearly 1,500 horses and Olympic, World Cup, and World Champion athletes. Each Saturday evening features exciting equestrian sportsmanship in the Arena and pre-show family activities, entertainment, and unique boutique shopping. The highlight of the week is the EVENING of MUSICAL FREESTYLES on Saturday, April 27 at 7:00 P.M. This Dressage event features Olympic and World Champion horse and rider pairs displaying strength and elegance in detailed routines set to music.”

The 36th Annual Encinitas Spring Street Fair

  • What you can expect: “Enjoy over 450 unique food, arts and crafts vendors plus four entertainment stages, children’s rides, Bike Valets, and a Beer Garden! Take advantage of free family fun, entertainment, a National Award Winning MainStreet and a traditional So-Cal beach town. Come for the sun, stay for the moonlight. Savor craft beers and soak up the sun while listening to the best bands in San Diego rock out at the Beer Garden Stage. You can even bring your kids and your dogs! SDRVC Next to Nature Photography Hike

  • What you can expect: “Experience the beauty of Bernardo Bay near Lake Hodges through the lens of a camera! Join Bryal Hilton, landscape designer at Heaviland Landscape Management, as she leads you on a guided photography hike that explores Escondido’s Piedras Pintadas (“painted rocks”) trail. As you meander along the trail, Bryal will point out the best native plants to place in your garden as part of the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy’s Next to Nature Certification Program. This 3.8 loop hike provides opportunities for photographers of all levels to practice their skills. You will make stops at select locations along the trail to photograph the scenery and wildlife. The hike follows Bernardo Bay on Lake Hodges, which is an important habitat refuge for many native and migratory animal species, particularly birds. Make sure to bring your camera, water, proper shoes and a sense of adventure!”

San Diego Humane Society Walk For Animals

  • What you can expect: “When you join the Walk for Animals, you’re joining a community that is working each day to create a more humane San Diego for companion animals and wildlife across our region.
