We’re right in the middle of the dog days of summer which, sadly, aren’t about dogs. The ancient Romans called the hottest and most humid days of summer the ‘dog days’ because the star Sirius aka the Dog Star was high in the sky. This year’s dog days run from July 12th through August 20th. San Diego is full of fun ways to pass the sticky time. Caregivers in San Diego, companions, seniors and the entire family can enjoy culture, childhood nostalgia and learning about the fruitarian lifestyle in Balboa Park, groove to classic ABBA in Escondido, and fly model planes in Fallbrook. Companion caregivers and seniors in home care in San Diego can liven up the dog days of summer with these classic summer treats!

National Carousel Day

  • What you can expect: “This Carousel has been a part of Balboa Park’s history since 1922 and has brought countless smiles and memories to all who’ve ridden its animal menagerie and reached for the prized brass ring. The purchase of the Carousel by Friends of Balboa Park in 2017 ensures that it remains an historic park landmark for many more years to come. We will commemorate this milestone with a free community event on National Carousel Day each year that includes musical entertainment, food vendors, children’s activities — and of course, free carousel rides! Join us this summer and enjoy an irreplaceable piece of San Diego history, the Balboa Park Carousel. PS – The success of this event is influenced by the work of dedicated volunteers. Volunteer signups are now available online.”
